We’ve all had Oreos, and we know once you start munching on those things, it’s hard to stop!
A recent study by neuroscience students, headed by DrJoseph Schroeder, at Connecticut College showed that Oreos can be as addictive as Cocaine (on lab rats).
This explains the temporary addiction one can have eating Oreos.
The rats behavior also seemed to be similar to humans, they eat the middle of the cookie first!
Apparently, eating Oreos simulates the brain the same way cocaine and morphine do, but it actually stimulates the brain’s “pleasure center” more than drugs do.
“Our research supports the theory that high-fat/ high-sugar foods stimulate the brain in the same way that drugs do,” Schroeder says. “It may explain why some people can’t resist these foods despite the fact that they know they are bad for them.”
The conclusion of the research was that even though significant health hazards were attributed to drugs like cocaine and morphine, high-fat/high-sugar foods are potentially more dangerous due to their affordability and availability, yet no warning revolves around them.
No Oreos were harmed during the writing of this article!
I will go munch on some Oreos now!
=D guilty as charged! hahahahaha
